Open office plans are terrible.

And mum’s the word on deadspin. That is certainly a departure from their norm.
Also, WaPo lists deadspin, Lifehacker splinter, the onion, and Kotaku, but leaves out Jalopnik (shots fired!) and Oppo (what the hell!).

I like the link to a paywall at WaPo.
Edit: He works there!

It’s a shame because I think Jalopnik (I could be wrong) is a strong brand

I think so, and judging by the cars they get from companies and the events they attend, I think the industry recognizes it too

Oh well, as long as they continue to bait Barstool choads and maybe mock ghoul Thiel now and then.

The sports bros greatest enemy is always other sports bros.

thats such a shame, i really liked Greenwell’s writing and what shes done with deadspin the last year and a half. I hope they promote from within cause then theres a chance the same integrity will remain

I’m assuming she’s going home to actually meet her Puerto Rican neighbors

Hmmm, if G/O wants to “stick to sports” that’s patently impossible, and Magary might as well follow Megan out the door.

That part in particular about the dress code in the handbook made me laugh. I work for on old ass staunchly place so it’s slacks, a button up and dress shoes for me which I'm not in love with. Smart Casual.... Ha!

Sports blogging has gotten so bad, it has completely diluted the old joke about sportswriters being lazy hacks because their journalism is Pulitzer-worthy in comparison.
I’m not even joking, writing about sports has become one of the last semi-neutral, non-partisan (STFU and kneel down, Colin), and honorable writing careers due to the decline of all other media outlets. IMHO.

And they can be awful, especially if linked to Boston or Philly.
The Deadspin crowd is actually quite decent compared to most.

Jalopnik's been dead for a few years now IMO

Umm
Never forget, never forgive

Dubya was still president then. Things change.
Still Pulitzer material compared to Barstool.

They peaked a few years ago, for sure, but not dead yet

Is that author even aroun d anymore?
I just go there for hockey content, which is more even-handed than many sites.

Deadspin and integrity don't belong in the same zip code.

Jalopnik got too big for its own good. It used to be a great place for interesting and quirky weirdos. Now it's just like every other corporate car website out there.

Came for this.
Leaving satisfied.

Now it’s just like every other corporate car website out there.
This. It still has good content, but you have to wade through ads, videos, generic reviews of generic commuter crossovers, tips about buying new/new-ish cars, more ads and more videos. There is a lot of mainstream fluff that, in my personal view, has no place on a website for car enthusiasts.
Back when Oppo articles were still shared to the front page the community here was the strongest. As was the content, due to the synergy. That, to me, was the best Jalopnik era in this decade.

Torch and Tracy are still bringing the weird, at least.

have you been paying attention to them lately? their coverage on the nassar scandal was handled very well. as have been the exposes into univision and this new owner. plus they drag barstool whenever they do something stupid. sure they were trash when they started but greenwell made some very positive changes
